Possible Causes

Main brush jammed with hair or debris, Main brush end bearings seized, Main brush motor failing, Main brush gearbox obstructed or damaged

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the power switch off (if equipped) and remove the robot from the charging base. Do not work on the unit while it is powered or charging.

  • Inspect the main brush: Turn the robot upside down. Remove the main brush guard by releasing the latches. Lift out the main brush.
  • Clean hair and debris: Use scissors or a seam ripper to cut away hair and threads wrapped around the brush and the brush end caps. Clean the brush housing and the brush cavity thoroughly.
  • Check brush end caps and bearings: Remove the end caps (if removable) and clear any hair or dust. Spin the brush by hand; it should rotate freely without grinding or sticking.
  • Inspect the brush motor area: Look into the brush motor drive socket for debris or damaged plastic teeth. Remove any obstructions with tweezers.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the brush and guard, ensure they are seated correctly, then power the robot back on and start a cleaning cycle.
  • If E1 persists: The main brush motor or gearbox may be failing. Replacement of the main brush motor assembly is recommended; this is typically a technician-level repair.
