Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Power the robot OFF and remove it from the charging dock. If possible, switch the main power button on the underside to OFF.
Step-by-step:
- Inspect the front bumper: Gently press the front bumper in and release it several times. It should move freely and spring back. If it feels stuck, check for lodged debris, hair, or small objects between the bumper and the body and remove them.
- Clean sensor windows: On many Proscenic models, IR collision sensors are behind small dark plastic windows along the bumper. Wipe these with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. If greasy, lightly dampen the cloth with water and dry thoroughly.
- Check bumper travel: Turn the robot upside down on a soft surface. While pressing the bumper, listen for faint clicks from the internal microswitches. If there is no click on either side, the switch or bracket may be damaged.
- Reseat bumper harness (advanced): If you are comfortable opening the unit, remove the top cover screws (usually around the perimeter). Carefully lift the cover and locate the bumper sensor harness going to the mainboard. Unplug and replug the connector firmly. Do not pull on the wires directly.
- Reboot and test: Reassemble, turn the main power back ON, place the robot on a flat floor, and start a cleaning cycle to see if E1 clears.
When to stop: If the bumper is physically cracked, misaligned, or the error persists after cleaning and reseating connectors, the bumper sensor assembly or mainboard likely needs replacement by a qualified technician.
