Cliff Sensor False Positive on Dark Surfaces
Robot vacuum repeatedly avoids dark or black carpets and refuses to cross them.

Possible Causes
IR cliff sensors interpreting dark carpet as a drop, Highly absorbent black or patterned rugs, Low ambient light exacerbating sensor behavior
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not cover cliff sensors permanently; this can cause falls on stairs.
Environmental adjustments:
- Increase ambient lighting in the room during cleaning.
- If possible, temporarily remove very dark rugs from areas where the robot must clean.
App settings:
- Some models allow adjusting cliff sensor sensitivity via firmware updates; check the app and update firmware.
Advanced (with caution): Some users partially cover cliff sensors with light, removable tape to reduce sensitivity, but this is not recommended as it increases fall risk. The safer solution is to restrict the robot from stair edges using physical barriers and accept limited performance on very dark carpets.
