Possible Causes

Dirty front IR receiver window, Faulty IR transmitter on dock, Misaligned dock placement, IR receiver board failure in robot

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Keep the robot on the floor; do not look directly into any bright IR LEDs.

  • 1. Clean IR windows: Wipe the dark plastic window on the front of the robot and the corresponding window on the dock with a soft cloth.
  • 2. Reposition dock: Place the dock against a flat wall with at least 1.5 m (5 ft) clear space in front and 0.5 m (1.5 ft) on each side. Avoid placing it near mirrors or under direct sunlight.
  • 3. Manual docking test: Place the robot about 1–2 m (3–6 ft) directly in front of the dock and press the Home/Return button. Observe if it drives straight and aligns with the dock.
  • 4. Check dock power: Ensure the dock LED is on and the adapter is plugged in. If the dock has no power, the robot cannot detect it.
  • 5. Component replacement: If the dock is powered and correctly placed but the robot still cannot detect it, the IR docking sensor in the robot or the IR transmitter in the dock may be defective and require replacement.
