False Cliff Detection on Dark Surfaces
Robot vacuum repeatedly avoids dark carpets or black mats as if they were cliffs

Possible Causes
Cliff sensors overly sensitive, Dark or reflective flooring, Dust on cliff sensors, Low ambient lighting
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the robot before cleaning sensors.
- 1. Clean cliff sensors: Wipe the downward-facing sensors with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust.
- 2. Improve lighting: Increase ambient light in the room; some sensors perform poorly in very low light on dark floors.
- 3. Adjust environment: If possible, move very dark or black rugs away from stairs so the robot can clean them without risk.
- 4. Test behavior: Observe the robot on the dark surface after cleaning. If it still refuses to cross, you may need to manually clean those areas or use virtual boundaries to reroute the robot.
Warning: Do not cover cliff sensors to force the robot onto dark surfaces; this can cause falls on real stairs.
