Radio Frequency Communication Loss
Thermostat shows RF error icon or 'RF' message; heating does not respond because the thermostat cannot communicate with the receiver.

Possible Causes
Out-of-range distance between thermostat and receiver, RF interference from other devices, Receiver not powered, Lost pairing between thermostat and receiver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the receiver before moving or rewiring it.
Steps to check:
- Check receiver power: Ensure the Salus receiver (e.g. RXRT510, RXRT520, RX10RF) has mains power. The power LED should be lit. If not, check the fused spur or breaker.
- Reduce distance and obstacles: Temporarily move the thermostat closer to the receiver (within a few metres, line-of-sight if possible). Thick walls, metal cabinets, and floors can block RF signals.
- Eliminate interference: Keep the receiver away from Wi-Fi routers, metal consumer units, and large appliances. Reposition if necessary.
- Re-pair the devices: Follow the Salus manual to enter pairing mode on the receiver (often by pressing and holding the pairing button) and then on the thermostat. Wait for confirmation that pairing is successful and the RF error clears.
- Check batteries: On battery-powered thermostats, fit fresh alkaline batteries. Low battery voltage can reduce RF transmission strength.
Resolution: If RF errors persist at close range with good batteries and correct pairing, the RF module in either the thermostat or receiver may be faulty. Replace the affected unit.
