Possible Causes
Stuck float in fuel tank, Faulty fuel level sender, Wiring harness damage, Incorrect sender resistance range
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Work in a well-ventilated area away from open flames. Disable automatic start.
- Verify actual fuel level: Use a dipstick or tank gauge to confirm the true fuel level.
- Inspect fuel level sender: Locate the sender on the top of the fuel tank. Check for loose mounting, corrosion, or damaged wiring.
- Check float movement: If accessible, gently move the float arm to ensure it is not stuck. Do not force it.
- Measure sender resistance: Disconnect the sender and measure resistance across its terminals while moving the float. Compare to CAT specifications. Replace if readings are erratic or out of range.
- Clear code and monitor: After repair, clear E-19 and monitor fuel level readings during operation.
Persistent incorrect readings after sender replacement suggest wiring or controller input issues that require professional diagnosis.
