Possible Causes
Damaged or collapsed engine mounts, Loose alternator mounting, Unbalanced fan or flywheel, Base frame not level
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disable automatic start. Keep clear of moving parts while the unit is running.
- Check base and leveling: Ensure the generator base is firmly anchored and level. Tighten anchor bolts if loose.
- Inspect mounts: With the engine off, inspect rubber engine and alternator mounts for cracking or separation. Replace damaged mounts.
- Tighten hardware: Check all accessible mounting bolts on the engine, alternator, and exhaust system. Tighten to CAT torque specs.
- Observe rotating parts: Run the unit briefly and watch for wobble in the fan, pulleys, or flywheel. If present, shut down and have a technician inspect for imbalance.
Severe vibration can damage wiring and components; if it cannot be corrected with basic checks, schedule service with a CAT technician.
