Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Foreign object in AEG drain pump impeller, Clogged drain hose or standpipe, Failed drain pump motor, Wiring fault between pump and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the appliance. Water may spill when opening the filter; keep towels and a shallow tray ready.
- Clean pump filter: Open the lower service flap, place a tray under the filter cap, and slowly unscrew it. Remove coins, buttons, lint, and debris. Clean thoroughly and refit securely.
- Check pump impeller: With the filter removed, reach in and gently turn the impeller. It should rotate freely with slight resistance. Remove any trapped objects.
- Inspect drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks or blockages. Detach from the standpipe or sink trap and flush with water.
- Test pump operation: If the pump is silent during drain, access it from the rear or bottom. Check for burnt smell or leaks. Measure coil resistance; replace the AEG drain pump if open circuit or seized.
- Check standpipe/sink trap: Ensure the household drain is not blocked by running water from a tap and observing flow.
If E20 persists after cleaning and pump replacement, a wiring or control board fault may be present and should be checked by a professional.
