Possible Causes
Failed door lock solenoid, Control board not sending unlock signal, Broken door handle mechanism, Wiring fault to lock
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power. Do not force the door open as this can damage the cabinet.
- Emergency release: Many AEG washer-dryers have a manual door release near the pump filter. Open the lower flap and pull the colored tab or cord to unlock the door.
- Inspect door lock: Access the lock from behind the front panel or via the door seal. Check for mechanical jamming or burnt components.
- Replace lock: If the lock coil is open circuit or physically damaged, replace the AEG door lock assembly.
- Control check: If a new lock does not resolve E42, the main PCB may not be providing the unlock voltage and should be tested by a technician.
