Safety first: If the appliance trips the RCD or MCB, do not repeatedly reset and restart. Unplug the machine and keep it disconnected until the fault is identified.

• Step 1 – Visual inspection: Remove the rear panel and inspect the wash heater, dryer heater (if accessible), and wiring harness for signs of burning, melted insulation, or moisture.
• Step 2 – Insulation test (competent persons): Using a megohmmeter or insulation tester, check resistance between each heater terminal and earth. A low resistance (near 0 Ω) indicates a shorted element.
• Step 3 – Disconnect suspect components: Temporarily disconnect the wash heater and dryer heater one at a time (with power unplugged), then reconnect mains and attempt a cold cycle. If the machine runs without tripping when a component is disconnected, that component is likely faulty.
• Step 4 – Replace faulty heater: Remove and replace the defective Caple-compatible heating element, ensuring correct sealing and wiring.
• Step 5 – Check for water leaks: Moisture on connectors can cause earth leakage. Inspect for leaks around the tub, hoses, and pump, and repair any leaks before further use.
• Step 6 – If E09 persists with heaters disconnected: The motor or main PCB may be shorted. This requires professional diagnosis and repair.
