Possible Causes
Stuck door interlock mechanism, Faulty door lock solenoid, Wiring fault between PCB and door lock, Main PCB not sending unlock signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off and unplug the appliance before attempting to open a jammed door. Do not force the door open.
- Step 1 – Wait for delay: Many Caple washer-dryers have a 1–2 minute delay before unlocking. Wait this period to see if the lock releases.
- Step 2 – Power reset: Unplug the machine for 5 minutes, then reconnect and try to start and cancel a short cycle to trigger an unlock.
- Step 3 – Emergency release: Check the lower front area or behind the filter flap for a manual door release pull cord. Gently pull to open the door.
- Step 4 – Inspect door lock: With the door open and power unplugged, remove the door gasket retaining band and access the door lock. Check for mechanical damage or burning.
- Step 5 – Replace door lock: If the lock is physically stuck or shows signs of overheating, replace it with a Caple-compatible door interlock assembly.
- Step 6 – Wiring and PCB: If a new lock does not resolve E16, the wiring or PCB may be at fault. Professional diagnosis is recommended.
