Possible Causes

Failed dryer outlet thermistor, Loose or damaged wiring to thermistor, Control board temperature sensing circuit failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the combo and allow it to cool completely before accessing any internal dryer components.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  • Confirm symptom: Run a timed dry cycle. If the drum tumbles but clothes remain cold and 1H appears, suspect a temperature sensing issue.
  • Access rear or front panel: Depending on model layout, remove the rear panel or front lower panel to access the dryer air outlet duct.
  • Locate the dryer outlet thermistor: This is a small sensor mounted on or near the dryer outlet duct, usually with two wires attached.
  • Inspect wiring: Check for loose connectors, broken wires, or signs of overheating around the thermistor. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Test thermistor: With power disconnected, use a multimeter to measure resistance across the thermistor at room temperature. Compare to GE specifications. A reading of open circuit or near zero ohms indicates failure.
  • Replace thermistor if defective: Remove mounting screw(s), detach the old thermistor, and install a new dryer outlet thermistor. Reconnect wiring exactly as found.
  • Clear lint from duct: While open, vacuum lint from the outlet duct and internal vent passages to ensure proper airflow, which also protects the new sensor.

If 1H persists after thermistor replacement and wiring checks, the main control board’s temperature circuit may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a technician.
