How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and be prepared for water spillage when opening any drain access. Keep towels or a shallow pan ready.
Steps to clear and test:
- Check for standing water: If the drum is full, manually bail out as much water as possible into a bucket.
- Access drain pump/filter: Remove the lower front access panel or rear panel (depending on model) to reach the drain pump assembly. Some GE Profile UltraFast units have a clean-out cap or filter.
- Clean the filter: Slowly unscrew the pump filter cap, allowing water to drain into a pan. Remove lint, coins, buttons, or other debris from the filter and pump cavity.
- Inspect impeller: Reach into the pump opening and gently turn the impeller. It should rotate freely without grinding or wobbling.
- Check hoses: Inspect the tub-to-pump and pump-to-drain-hose connections for clogs or kinks. Clear any obstructions and ensure clamps are tight.
- Test pump (advanced): With power disconnected, check resistance across the pump motor terminals with a multimeter. An open circuit or very high resistance indicates a failed motor.
- Replace pump if defective: If the pump is noisy, seized, or electrically open, replace the drain pump assembly. Transfer hoses and wiring to the new pump, secure with screws and clamps, and reassemble panels.
After reassembly, run a drain & spin cycle to confirm proper operation and that 2C is cleared.
