Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and allow the unit to cool before accessing the dryer section. Sharp metal edges may be present inside the cabinet.
Steps to diagnose:
- Confirm airflow issue: During a dry cycle, if you hear the drum turning but feel little or no warm air at the exhaust (if vented) or at the front, suspect a blower issue.
- Access blower housing: Remove the rear panel or lower front panel to reach the dryer blower housing and motor.
- Inspect for obstructions: Remove lint, fabric pieces, or foreign objects from the blower wheel and housing. Ensure the wheel spins freely by hand.
- Check blower wheel attachment: Verify the blower wheel is firmly attached to the motor shaft and not stripped or cracked.
- Test motor: Inspect wiring to the blower motor for loose connectors or damage. With power disconnected, check motor winding resistance per GE specs. A reading of open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Replace blower motor or assembly: If the motor is seized, noisy, or electrically open, replace the dryer blower motor assembly (often includes the wheel). Reinstall housing, reconnect wiring, and secure panels.
Run a test dry cycle to confirm that airflow and heating are restored and that 2F no longer appears.
