Possible Causes
Worn suspension rods/dampers, Loose drum counterweights, Shipping bolts not removed on new installation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing panels. Do not place hands near the spinning drum while the unit is running.
Steps to diagnose and correct:
- Check load: First verify that the noise is not simply due to an unbalanced load. Redistribute clothes and run spin again.
- Verify shipping bolts: For recently installed units, check the rear of the washer-dryer for any remaining shipping bolts. Remove all per installation instructions.
- Inspect suspension: Remove the top panel and observe the suspension rods or dampers while gently pushing down on the drum. Excessive bouncing or clunking indicates worn components.
- Check counterweights: With front or rear panel removed, inspect the concrete or cast-iron drum counterweights for loose mounting bolts. Tighten to manufacturer torque specs.
- Replace worn suspension: If rods or dampers are leaking oil or have weak resistance, replace the full set of suspension rods/dampers to restore proper balance control.
After repair, run a high-speed spin with a test load to confirm noise reduction.
