Possible Causes
Failed door lock assembly, Misaligned door strike, Broken door latch hook, Loose or damaged door lock wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before removing any panels or working near the door lock wiring.
- Inspect door closure: Ensure the door closes firmly and evenly. Check that no clothing is trapped between the door and gasket.
- Check door strike: Examine the plastic or metal door strike on the door. If it is cracked, loose, or misaligned, tighten its screws or replace it. The strike must enter the door lock opening fully.
- Test door lock operation: Close the door and start a cycle. Listen for the lock to click. If there is no click and E31 appears, the lock may be faulty.
- Access door lock assembly: Remove the front panel or door gasket clamp (depending on model) to reach the door lock. Inspect for broken plastic, burn marks, or loose connectors. Reseat the wiring harness firmly.
- Replace door lock: If the lock is physically damaged or tests open with a multimeter, replace the door lock assembly. Transfer wiring to the new lock one connector at a time, secure it with screws, reinstall the gasket and clamp, and test a cycle.
