Possible Causes
Shorted drive motor windings, Shorted motor control board, Pinched or shorted motor wiring harness, Drum seized causing motor overload
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker; this indicates a serious electrical fault.
- Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. If it is difficult or impossible to turn, inspect for foreign objects between the drum and tub or a seized bearing.
- Inspect wiring harness: Remove the rear panel and visually inspect the motor wiring harness for melted insulation, pinched sections, or contact with sharp metal edges. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Test motor windings: With a multimeter, check resistance between motor terminals and from each terminal to ground. Very low resistance or continuity to ground indicates a shorted motor.
- Inspect motor control board: Look for burn marks, bulging components, or a burnt smell on the motor control or main control board. If present, the board is likely shorted.
- Replace defective parts: Replace the drive motor if windings are shorted. If the motor is good but the board is damaged, replace the motor control board or main control. Due to shock risk, board-level diagnosis is best left to a qualified technician.
