Possible Causes

Blocked lint filter or exhaust duct, Failed exhaust thermistor, Stuck heater relay on control board, Restricted internal blower housing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit. Overheating can be a fire hazard; do not continue using the dryer until the issue is resolved.

  • Clean lint filter: Remove and thoroughly clean the lint filter. Wash with warm soapy water if coated with fabric softener residue, then dry completely.
  • Inspect exhaust duct: Check the entire vent path from the combo to the outside. Remove lint buildup, straighten crushed sections, and avoid excessive length or multiple elbows.
  • Check internal airflow: Access the blower housing by removing the rear or front panel. Clean lint from the blower wheel and housing. Ensure the blower wheel is firmly attached to the motor shaft.
  • Test exhaust thermistor: Locate the exhaust thermistor on the blower housing or exhaust duct. Using the service manual, compare its resistance at room temperature to specifications. Replace if out of range.
  • Control board check: If airflow is good and the thermistor is correct, the heater relay on the main control may be stuck closed, causing continuous heat. In this case, replace the main control board.
