Possible Causes
Shorted wash heating element to ground, Shorted dryer heating element, Internal short on main control module, Damaged wiring harness contacting chassis
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. If the circuit breaker has tripped, reset only after inspecting for obvious damage or burning.
- Step 1 – Visual inspection: Remove rear panel and inspect heater wiring (wash and dryer) for melted insulation or contact with the metal cabinet. Repair or replace any damaged wiring.
- Step 2 – Insulation test (if available): Using a megohmmeter, test each heater terminal to earth (chassis). A very low resistance indicates a shorted heater. Without a megohmmeter, disconnect the heater and see if the breaker stops tripping when running a cold cycle.
- Step 3 – Isolate components: Disconnect the wash heater, then test. If E09 or tripping persists, reconnect and disconnect the dryer heater, then test again. This helps identify which circuit is faulty.
- Step 4 – Replace faulty heater: If a heater is shorted, remove its mounting nut, carefully pry it out of the tub or duct, and install a new Hansa-compatible heater with a fresh seal. Tighten evenly to avoid leaks.
- Step 5 – Control module inspection: If heaters and wiring are sound, remove the control module cover and look for burnt tracks or components. Do not touch capacitors without discharging. If damage is visible, replace the PCB.
- Step 6 – Final test: Reassemble, restore power, and run a test wash and dry cycle, monitoring for any smell of burning or abnormal heating.
