Possible Causes
Blocked lint in dryer air duct, Faulty dryer NTC sensor, Stuck or failed dryer fan, Defective thermal thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before working on the dryer system.
- Step 1 – Clean lint and condenser: Remove and wash the condenser (if user-removable). Vacuum lint from internal ducts accessible from the front filter area and rear panel. Ensure the air intake and exhaust paths are clear.
- Step 2 – Check dryer fan: Access the dryer fan (usually near the top or rear). Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without scraping. Replace the fan motor if seized or noisy.
- Step 3 – Inspect dryer NTC sensor: Locate the NTC on the hot air duct. Disconnect and measure its resistance at room temperature. Replace if open, shorted, or out of specification.
- Step 4 – Thermal thermostat: Test continuity of the high-limit thermostat on the heater housing. If it is open and non-resettable, replace it with the correct Hansa-rated part.
- Step 5 – Test cycle: After cleaning and replacing faulty components, run a drying cycle with a small load. If E12 recurs quickly, the control board may be misreading the sensor or failing to regulate the heater, requiring professional diagnosis.
