Possible Causes
Faulty tachometer coil on motor, Loose tach wiring, Demagnetized motor rotor magnet, Faulty motor control circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before accessing the motor.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Access motor: Remove the rear panel and locate the drive motor at the bottom of the tub.
- 2. Inspect tachometer: At the rear of the motor, locate the small tachometer sensor. Check that it is firmly attached and that the wiring connector is secure.
- 3. Test tach coil: Disconnect the tach wires and measure resistance; typical values are a few hundred ohms. An open circuit indicates a failed tach coil; replace the motor or tach assembly (depending on design).
- 4. Check rotor magnet: Inspect the rotor magnet ring for cracks or damage. A damaged magnet can cause erratic speed readings.
- 5. Control board: If motor and tach are good, the motor control section on the PCB may be defective and require replacement.
