Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Failed drain pump motor, Kinked or improperly installed drain hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the LG washer-dryer combo and turn off the water supply before working on it. Water may spill when opening the filter—have towels and a shallow pan ready.
- 1. Check for a simple drain hose issue:
- Ensure the drain hose is not kinked or crushed behind the unit.
- Verify the hose is not inserted too far into the standpipe (should be about 6–8 inches) and that the standpipe is not clogged.
- 2. Clean the drain pump filter:
- Locate the small access door at the bottom front of the machine.
- Place a shallow pan and towels under the door.
- Open the access door and slowly loosen the drain cap or small drain tube (if equipped) to let water out.
- Remove the drain pump filter and clean out lint, coins, buttons, and debris.
- Inspect the impeller inside the pump housing for damage or obstruction; it should spin freely.
- Reinstall the filter securely.
- 3. Run a drain/spin test:
- Plug the unit back in and run a Drain+Spin cycle with no clothes.
- If OE returns and water does not pump out, the drain pump motor is likely faulty.
- 4. Inspect/replace the drain pump:
- Unplug the unit again.
- Remove the lower front panel or rear panel (model dependent).
- Locate the LG drain pump assembly (usually mounted at the front bottom with hoses attached).
- Check wiring connections for burns or looseness.
- If the pump hums but does not move water, or is silent and getting power, replace the drain pump assembly.
- When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable removing panels or working around water and electrical connections, contact a qualified appliance technician.
