Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Foreign object in drain pump impeller, Blocked drain hose or standpipe, Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance. Water may spill when opening the filter; have towels and a shallow tray ready.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Access the pump filter: Open the small service flap at the bottom front of the machine. Place a tray under the filter cap. Slowly unscrew the cap to let water drain out in a controlled way.
- 2. Clean the filter: Remove lint, coins, buttons, and other debris from the filter and the pump cavity. Check that the pump impeller turns freely by hand.
- 3. Inspect the drain hose: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked or crushed behind the machine. Disconnect it from the standpipe or sink trap and check for blockages by flushing water through it.
- 4. Test the pump: With power still disconnected, remove the lower front panel (if applicable) to access the pump. Check the wiring connector for burning or loose contacts. Measure the pump coil resistance; an open circuit indicates a failed pump.
- 5. Run a test drain: Reassemble the filter and hose, plug the machine back in, and select a drain or spin program. Listen for the pump running. If it hums but does not pump, the impeller may be jammed or the pump worn out and should be replaced.
- 6. Check for internal blockages: If E03 persists, there may be a blockage in the sump hose between the tub and pump. This requires removing the front or rear panel and loosening the large rubber hose to clear obstructions.
When to call a technician: If you suspect a wiring or control board issue, or are not comfortable removing internal hoses, seek professional service.
