Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance from the mains and turn off the water supply before any work. Do not bypass the door lock for testing with the machine powered.
Step-by-step checks:
- Inspect the door and latch: Open the door and check the metal/plastic latch hook on the door and the strike plate on the cabinet. If bent, cracked, or loose, tighten screws or replace the latch hook.
- Check for door closure issues: Ensure no clothing is trapped between the door seal and drum. Close the door firmly until you hear a positive click. Try starting a cycle again.
- Access the door interlock: Remove the front retaining band from the door gasket and gently pull the gasket back. Unscrew the door lock assembly from the front panel. Inspect for burn marks, broken plastic, or loose connectors.
- Test the door lock (if you have a multimeter): With the lock disconnected and the appliance unplugged, measure continuity across the lock terminals according to a wiring diagram or markings on the lock. A lock that never shows continuity when actuated is faulty and should be replaced.
- Check wiring to the PCB: Follow the harness from the door lock to the main control board. Look for pinched, broken, or burnt wires and reseat the connector on the PCB.
- Replace the door lock assembly: If visibly damaged or testing open-circuit, install a new Stoves-compatible door interlock, refit the gasket and retaining band, and test.
If E01 persists after replacing the lock and checking wiring, the main control board may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a qualified technician.
