Possible Causes

Failed wash heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burnt heater wiring, Faulty heater relay on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the appliance and ensure the drum is cool before working near the heater.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Access the heater: Remove the rear panel. At the bottom of the tub you will see the heater flange with two power terminals and an earth connection, often with an NTC sensor in the middle.
  • Visual inspection: Look for signs of overheating, corrosion, or limescale buildup around the heater terminals. Check that the wiring connectors are tight and not burnt.
  • Test heater resistance: With wires disconnected, measure resistance across the heater terminals. Typical values are 20–40 Ω. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
  • Test NTC sensor: Measure resistance across the sensor at room temperature. It should show a stable value (often 20–30 kΩ) and change smoothly if warmed slightly. An open or shorted sensor should be replaced.
  • Replace faulty components: If the heater is faulty, loosen the central nut, push the bolt in slightly, and carefully pry the heater out of the tub. Fit a new Stoves-compatible heater with gasket, tighten evenly, reconnect wiring, and test for leaks.

If both heater and sensor test correctly, the fault may lie with the main control board or heater relay, which should be checked by a professional.
