Possible Causes
Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Loose tachometer wiring, Defective motor, Faulty motor control circuit on main board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the machine before accessing the motor area.
- Step 1 – Check load and balance: Ensure the drum is not overloaded or with a single heavy item (e.g., blanket). Run a spin cycle with a balanced load to rule out simple imbalance.
- Step 2 – Access motor: Remove the rear panel. Locate the motor at the bottom of the tub. The tachometer is usually a small sensor or coil at the rear of the motor.
- Step 3 – Inspect tachometer wiring: Check the small wires leading to the tachometer for damage or loose connectors. Reseat the plug.
- Step 4 – Test tachometer (advanced): With a multimeter set to resistance, measure across the tachometer terminals. Compare with service specifications. An open circuit or erratic reading indicates a faulty sensor.
- Step 5 – Replace motor or tachometer: On many Vedette motors, the tachometer is integrated. Replace the entire motor assembly if the tachometer is defective. If the motor and tachometer test good, the main control board may not be processing speed feedback correctly and may need replacement.
