Possible Causes
Clogged drain pump filter, Blocked or kinked drain hose, Foreign object jammed in drain pump, Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer. Water may spill when opening the filter; keep towels and a shallow pan ready.
- 1. Access the drain pump filter: Open the lower front service flap (or remove the lower kick panel) to reach the drain pump filter cap.
- 2. Drain residual water: If equipped, use the emergency drain hose into a pan. Otherwise, slowly loosen the filter cap to let water out gradually.
- 3. Clean the filter: Remove the filter completely and clear lint, coins, buttons, and debris. Check inside the pump cavity for obstructions around the impeller.
- 4. Inspect the drain hose: At the back of the washer, ensure the drain hose is not kinked, crushed, or inserted too far into the standpipe (which can cause siphoning). Clear any visible blockage.
- 5. Reassemble and test: Refit the filter cap securely, close the flap, plug in the washer, and run a drain or spin-only cycle. Listen for the pump running and check if water exits the drain.
- 6. Check pump operation (advanced): If the pump hums but does not move water, the impeller may be jammed or the pump motor weak. If the pump is silent and receives power (technician test), replace the drain pump assembly.
