Possible Causes
Failed tub heating element, Faulty NTC temperature sensor, Loose or burnt heater wiring, Defective main control board heater relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer. Heating components operate at mains voltage; avoid contact with live parts.
- 1. Confirm symptom: Run a hot wash program and check after 15–20 minutes if the door glass and water feel warm. If not, heating is not occurring.
- 2. Access heater terminals: Remove the rear panel. At the bottom of the outer tub, locate the tub heating element with two power terminals and a center ground/NTC connection.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Check for loose connectors, burnt marks, or melted insulation at the heater and NTC sensor. Reseat connectors firmly.
- 4. Test heater (for technicians): With the heater disconnected and washer unplugged, measure resistance across the heater terminals. A typical value is 20–30 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates an open heater that must be replaced.
- 5. Check NTC sensor: The NTC temperature sensor is usually integrated with or mounted near the heater. Measure its resistance at room temperature (commonly 10–20 kΩ). If reading is open/short or does not change with temperature, replace the sensor.
- 6. Replace faulty parts: If the heater or NTC is defective, remove the center nut, gently push the bolt in, and pull the heater out of the tub. Install the new heater with gasket evenly seated to avoid leaks.
- 7. If parts test OK: Persistent E5 with good heater and NTC may indicate a faulty main control board heater relay; professional service is recommended.
