Possible Causes

Defective door interlock switch, Broken or misaligned door latch hook, Wiring harness issue between door lock and main control board, Faulty main control board (PCB)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer from the mains and turn off the water supply before any work. Do not bypass the door lock for testing with the machine powered.

  • Check door closure: Open and firmly close the door. Ensure no laundry is trapped between the door seal and the door glass. The door should click positively when closed.
  • Inspect the door latch hook: Examine the metal or plastic latch on the door of your SMEG washer. If it is cracked, loose, or bent, it may not engage the interlock. Replace the latch if damaged.
  • Access the door interlock: Remove the front retaining band from the door gasket and gently pull the gasket back near the lock area. Unscrew the door lock assembly from the front panel and pull it out carefully.
  • Check wiring: Inspect the connector and wiring harness going to the door lock for burnt pins, loose connections, or broken wires. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Test the interlock (for qualified persons): Using a multimeter on continuity, check the lock terminals according to the wiring diagram (usually printed on the back panel or in the user manual). If the lock does not change state when the door is closed, replace it.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the door lock, gasket, and retaining band. Restore power and run a short cycle to confirm the error is cleared.

If E01 persists after replacing the door lock and checking wiring, the main control board may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a professional technician.
