Possible Causes
Blocked drain pump filter, Obstructed drain hose, Foreign object in drain pump impeller, Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer. Water may spill when opening the filter; keep towels and a shallow tray ready.
- Access the pump filter: On most SMEG washers, the pump filter is behind a small access flap at the bottom front. Open the flap and locate the filter cap.
- Drain residual water: If your model has an emergency drain tube, pull it out and drain into a tray. Otherwise, slowly loosen the filter cap to let water escape gradually.
- Clean the filter: Remove the filter completely and clear out coins, lint, buttons, or other debris. Rinse the filter under running water.
- Inspect the pump impeller: Look inside the pump housing and check that the impeller turns freely and is not jammed by objects. Remove any obstruction carefully.
- Check the drain hose: Inspect the drain hose at the back of the machine and at the standpipe or sink connection for kinks or clogs. Flush it with water if necessary.
- Reassemble and test: Refit the filter securely, close the flap, restore power, and run a drain/spin program to confirm that E03 is cleared.
If the pump hums but does not turn, or is silent and receives power (for qualified persons to test), the drain pump motor is likely defective and should be replaced.
