Washer stops during heating phase; water remains cold and E05 is displayed.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer and allow it to cool before accessing internal components.
- Access the heater: On many SMEG washers, the heater is mounted at the bottom of the rear of the tub. Remove the rear panel to expose the heater terminals and NTC sensor.
- Inspect wiring: Check for burnt connectors, loose spade terminals, or damaged insulation at the heater and NTC sensor. Repair or replace wiring as needed.
- Test the heating element (qualified persons): Disconnect the heater wires and measure resistance across the heater terminals with a multimeter. Typical values are 20–30 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates an open heater that must be replaced.
- Test the NTC sensor: Measure resistance across the NTC at room temperature; it should be within the range specified in the service data (often 20–30 kΩ at 20°C). If it reads open or short, replace the sensor.
- Reassemble and test: Reconnect all wiring, refit the rear panel, restore power, and run a 60°C wash to confirm that heating is restored and E05 is cleared.
If the heater and NTC test correctly but E05 persists, the main control board heater relay or triac may be defective and should be diagnosed by a professional.
