Possible Causes

Worn carbon brushes on universal motor, Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Loose or damaged motor wiring harness, Defective motor control circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer before removing panels or touching the motor assembly.

  • Check drum movement: Rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly without grinding or stiffness. If it is seized, the problem may be mechanical (bearing or foreign object) rather than motor electrical.
  • Access the motor: Remove the rear panel. Locate the drive belt and motor at the bottom of the tub.
  • Inspect the belt: Ensure the belt is on both the motor pulley and drum pulley and is not snapped or heavily worn. Replace if damaged.
  • Check motor connections: Inspect the motor plug and wiring harness for loose connectors or burnt pins. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Check carbon brushes (if fitted): On brushed SMEG motors, remove the brush holders and inspect the carbon length. If they are worn to a few millimetres or uneven, replace both brushes as a pair.
  • Test run: Reassemble, restore power, and run a spin cycle. If E06 persists, the tachometer or control board may require professional testing.

Working around the motor involves live circuits and moving parts. If you are unsure, seek assistance from a qualified technician.
