Possible Causes

Leak from door seal, Leak from hoses or pump, Cracked tub or sump hose, Float switch activated in base tray

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer and turn off water taps immediately to prevent further leakage.

  • Check for visible leaks: Look around the door seal, front panel, and underneath the machine for water. Remove the lower front kick panel or rear panel to inspect hoses and the pump.
  • Inspect base tray: Many SMEG washers have a base tray with a float switch. Tilt the machine slightly (with help) and look for water in the tray. Carefully sponge out any water.
  • Identify leak source: Examine the door gasket for tears, the sump hose from tub to pump for splits, and the pump body for cracks. Tighten hose clamps if loose.
  • Dry and test: Once the leak source is repaired or temporarily sealed, dry the base tray thoroughly, restore power, and run a short cycle while monitoring for leaks.

Do not continue using the washer if a structural component like the tub is cracked. This requires professional assessment and repair.
