Possible Causes
Door interlock mechanism jammed, Control board not sending unlock signal, Residual water detected in drum, Broken door handle or latch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not force the door open with tools; you may break the glass or injure yourself. Unplug the washer before attempting manual release.
- Wait a few minutes: Many SMEG washers delay unlocking for 1–2 minutes after the cycle ends. Ensure the display shows the cycle is complete.
- Check for water: If water is still visible in the drum, run a drain program. A full drum will keep the door locked.
- Power reset: Unplug the washer for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect and try to unlock.
- Manual release: Consult your user manual for the emergency door release. Often, a pull cord or lever is accessible behind the lower front panel or pump filter flap.
If the door remains locked or the problem recurs, the door lock assembly or control board may need replacement.
