How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Toshiba washer and turn off the water supply before working on it. Have towels or a shallow pan ready for water spillage.
- 1. Check the drain hose: Ensure the drain hose at the back is not kinked, crushed, or inserted too far into the standpipe. Remove the hose and flush it with water to clear lint or debris.
- 2. Clean the drain pump filter (if accessible): On many Toshiba front-loaders, there is a small access door at the bottom front. Open it, place a tray under the cap, and slowly unscrew the filter cap to let water drain. Remove lint, coins, and debris from the filter and housing, then reinstall securely.
- 3. Inspect the tub-to-pump hose: If you can access the bottom of the machine, locate the large black hose from the tub to the pump. Remove the clamp and check for socks, lint, or foreign objects blocking the hose or the plastic ball trap. Refit the hose and clamp tightly.
- 4. Test the drain pump: With the washer unplugged, check the pump impeller for damage or binding. If you have a multimeter, test the pump coil for continuity. If the pump hums but does not move water, or is open-circuit, it likely needs replacement.
- 5. Reset and test: Reassemble, restore power, and run a drain/spin cycle to confirm the error is cleared.
If the E1 code persists after clearing all blockages, the drain pump motor or control board may be faulty and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
