Possible Causes
Defective door lock switch, Misaligned door latch, Broken lid lock wiring harness, Faulty control board door lock relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before inspecting the door or lid lock system.
- 1. Inspect the door/lid physically: Check that the door closes fully and the latch engages. Look for bent hinges, cracked latch hooks, or foreign objects stuck in the strike area. Realign the door by gently adjusting the hinges if they are sagging.
- 2. Clean the latch area: Use a soft brush and cloth to remove detergent residue or lint from the door strike and lock opening. Sticky buildup can prevent the lock from engaging.
- 3. Check the door lock wiring: Remove the top or front panel (depending on model) to access the door lock assembly. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for loose plugs, corrosion, or broken wires. Reseat the connector firmly.
- 4. Test the door lock switch: With a multimeter, test the lock assembly terminals for continuity when the door is closed and locked (refer to the Toshiba service diagram for pinout). If there is no continuity or the lock coil is open, the lock assembly is faulty.
- 5. Replace the door lock assembly: Remove mounting screws, disconnect the harness, and install a new Toshiba-compatible door lock. Reassemble the cabinet and test a wash cycle.
If the E2 error remains after replacing the lock, the main control board may not be sending the lock signal and should be diagnosed by a professional.
