Possible Causes
Partially clogged drain pump, Obstructed drain hose, Foreign object in pump impeller, Weak drain pump motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer and prepare for water spillage when opening the pump filter.
- 1. Clean the pump filter: Open the pump access door, place a tray underneath, and slowly remove the filter cap. Clear lint, coins, and debris from the filter and pump cavity.
- 2. Inspect the pump impeller: Shine a light into the pump housing and check that the impeller spins freely and is not broken. Remove any trapped objects.
- 3. Check the drain hose and standpipe: Ensure the hose is not blocked at the end or frozen (in cold climates). Flush the hose with water.
- 4. Run a drain-only cycle: After reassembling, run a drain or spin-only program to confirm strong water flow from the drain hose.
- 5. Replace the pump if weak: If the pump hums but drains slowly even when clear, replace the drain pump assembly.
