Possible Causes

Failed drive motor, Faulty motor capacitor (on some top-load models), Loose or damaged motor wiring harness, Defective inverter/control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Motor and inverter circuits can store energy; do not touch exposed terminals immediately after unplugging.

  • 1. Check for mechanical obstruction: Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is seized or very stiff, inspect for foreign objects between the tub and drum or a seized bearing.
  • 2. Inspect motor wiring: Access the bottom or rear of the washer to reach the motor. Check the harness connector for burns, corrosion, or loose pins. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • 3. Test the motor windings: Use a multimeter to measure resistance between motor terminals. Compare with Toshiba specifications. Open or shorted windings indicate a bad motor.
  • 4. Check the capacitor (if fitted): On some Toshiba top-loaders, a start/run capacitor is mounted near the motor. Visually inspect for bulging or leakage. Test capacitance with a meter; replace if out of spec.
  • 5. Inspect the inverter or main PCB: Look for burnt components or smell of burnt electronics. If the motor tests good but E6 persists, the inverter or control board may need replacement by a qualified technician.
