Possible Causes
Stuck-open water inlet valve, Faulty water level sensor, Siphoning due to drain hose installation, Control board failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer immediately if water is overflowing. Shut off the water supply valves.
- 1. Check drain hose installation: Ensure the drain hose is not inserted too far into the standpipe and that the standpipe height meets Toshiba specifications. Incorrect installation can cause siphoning and confuse the level sensor.
- 2. Inspect the inlet valve: With water supply turned off, disconnect hoses and check for debris. If water continues to flow into the tub when the washer is unplugged and water is turned on, the valve is mechanically stuck open and must be replaced.
- 3. Verify the pressure hose and sensor: Inspect the pressure hose for disconnection or leaks. Reattach securely and replace if cracked. Test the water level sensor as described for E5.
- 4. Clear excess water: Manually drain the tub using the drain filter or by lowering the drain hose into a bucket. Restart a spin/drain cycle to reset the level.
- 5. Control board check: If the valve and sensor are good but E8 persists, the main PCB may be misreading the level signal and should be evaluated by a technician.
