Possible Causes
Blocked vent pipe, Failed pressure switch, Condensate blockage in vent, Faulty blower motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker and close the gas shutoff valve. Do not operate the heater with suspected vent blockage.
- Inspect venting: Follow the PVC or metal vent from the blower to the termination outside. Remove any visible obstructions such as bird nests, leaves, or ice. Ensure all joints are properly sealed and not crushed.
- Check condensate drain (if equipped): Locate the condensate trap and tubing. Clear any kinks and flush the trap with warm water to remove sludge. Ensure the drain line slopes downward and is not frozen.
- Test the pressure switch tubing: Remove the small rubber or silicone tube from the pressure switch and blower port. Check for water or debris; blow through it to clear. Reattach firmly.
- Verify pressure switch operation: With power off, inspect the switch for loose terminals or corrosion. If the vent is clear and tubing is good but E002 persists, the pressure switch may need replacement with a GSW-approved part.
- Blower check: Spin the blower wheel by hand (power off). If it is seized, noisy, or wobbly, the blower assembly may be failing and should be replaced.
