Possible Causes
Dirty flame sensor, Poor burner grounding, Low gas pressure, Faulty gas control valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn gas control to OFF and disconnect power. Allow the burner area to cool.
- Clean flame sensor: Remove the flame sensor rod from the burner assembly. Lightly polish the rod with fine emery cloth to remove oxidation. Wipe with a clean dry cloth and reinstall, ensuring it is properly positioned in the flame path.
- Check burner and ground: Remove and clean the main burner with a soft brush and compressed air. Ensure the burner bracket and control are securely grounded to the tank; tighten mounting screws.
- Inspect gas supply: Confirm the manual gas valve is fully open. If other gas appliances show weak flames, contact your gas supplier to check pressure.
- Observe flame (if safe): After reassembly, restore gas and power and watch the burner through the sight glass. The flame should be stable and blue. If it lights then drops out and E003 returns, the gas control valve or control board may be defective and require professional replacement.
