Possible Causes
Frozen intake or exhaust terminal, Iced condensate drain, Faulty vent temperature sensor, Excessive vent length
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and gas. Do not attempt to operate the heater with frozen venting.
- Inspect outdoor terminations: Check the intake and exhaust hoods outside. Remove snow, ice, or frost buildup. Ensure clearances from grade and overhangs meet GSW installation requirements.
- Check condensate drain: If the unit is condensing, verify the condensate trap and line are not frozen. Thaw gently with warm towels and improve insulation or heat tracing as needed.
- Sensor wiring: Locate the vent temperature sensor (if equipped) near the blower or vent collar. Inspect wiring and connector for damage.
- Vent configuration: Compare vent length and number of elbows to the GSW installation manual. Excessive length can cause low temperature and nuisance trips; reconfigure if necessary.
- Replace sensor: If wiring and venting are correct but E013 persists, replace the vent temperature sensor with a GSW-approved part.
