Possible Causes
Clogged inlet screen, Fouled resin bed, Partially closed bypass, Plugged injector or flow controls
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Bypass the softener to restore temporary pressure, then service the unit.
- Confirm softener is cause: Place the Autotrol valve in bypass. If pressure returns to normal, the restriction is in the softener.
- Check inlet screen: Remove and clean the inlet screen or strainer on the Autotrol valve if equipped.
- Inspect injector and flow controls: Clean the injector/nozzle-venturi and any flow control orifices to remove iron or sediment buildup.
- Resin fouling: If pressure drop persists, the resin bed may be fouled or channelled. Backwash the unit manually and consider replacing the resin media if heavily fouled.
- Bypass position: Ensure the bypass is fully in the service position and not partially closed.
