Autotrol softener causes water hammer or banging pipes during cycle changes

Safety: Be cautious when adjusting pressure regulators.

• Check water pressure: Measure static pressure. If above 80 psi, install or adjust a pressure reducing valve on the main line.
• Secure piping: Add or tighten pipe clamps and supports near the Autotrol softener and main lines.
• Install water hammer arrestors: Add water hammer arrestors near quick-closing fixtures or near the softener if needed.
• Adjust cycle timing: On some controls, you may be able to lengthen transition times; consult the Autotrol manual.
