Possible Causes
Salt level below sensor, Salt bridge preventing sensor contact, Faulty brine tank salt level sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No electrical work is required; keep the area dry.
- Check actual salt level: Open the brine tank and visually confirm the salt level. If low, add appropriate water softener salt (pellets or solar crystals as recommended).
- Break salt bridge: If the tank appears full but the salt is hardened at the top, use a broom handle or similar tool to gently break up the salt bridge so salt can fall into the water below.
- Inspect salt level sensor: On models with a float or electronic salt sensor, ensure it moves freely and is not encrusted with salt. Clean the sensor and float assembly with warm water.
- Test sensor: After cleaning and refilling, wait for a regeneration cycle. If the warning persists despite adequate salt, the salt level sensor/float assembly may be faulty and should be replaced.
