Possible Causes
Worn bypass O-rings, Cracked bypass housing, Loose union nuts, Misaligned yoke
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Shut off main water and relieve pressure before disassembly.
- Check union nuts: Tighten the union nuts connecting the Autotrol valve to the bypass/yoke. Ensure they are hand-tight plus a small additional turn.
- Inspect O-rings: Remove the bypass or yoke and inspect the internal O-rings for flattening, cuts, or chemical damage. Replace with an Autotrol bypass O-ring kit.
- Check for cracks: Examine the bypass body for stress cracks, especially if exposed to freezing. Replace the bypass valve assembly if cracked.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall components, slowly pressurize the system, and check for leaks.
