Possible Causes
High water pressure, Lack of water hammer arrestor, Fast-closing Clearwater control valve, Long rigid plumbing runs
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not exceed the maximum rated pressure of the softener. Use a pressure gauge to verify.
- Measure pressure: Attach a gauge to a nearby faucet. If pressure exceeds 80 psi, install or adjust a pressure-reducing valve.
- Install hammer arrestor: Add a water hammer arrestor near the Clearwater softener or on the main line to absorb shock.
- Secure piping: Ensure copper or PEX lines are properly clipped and not loose.
- Adjust cycle timing: If the controller allows, lengthen transition times between cycles to reduce sudden flow changes.
Persistent hammering can damage plumbing; address high pressure and add arrestors as needed.
