Possible Causes

Brine tank empty of salt, Salt bridge in Clearwater brine tank, Blocked brine well or safety float, Restricted brine line to venturi

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the softener before working inside the brine tank. Wear gloves when handling salt and brine water.

  • Check salt level: Open the Clearwater brine tank lid. Ensure salt pellets are at least halfway up the tank. If low, refill with approved water softener salt.
  • Break salt bridge: If the top looks full but salt level hasn’t dropped for weeks, gently push a broom handle down around the edges to break any hardened salt bridge. Do not strike the tank hard.
  • Inspect brine well and float: Remove the brine well cover (the inner tube). Check the Clearwater safety float assembly for crusted salt or debris. Clean with warm water and ensure the float moves freely up and down.
  • Check brine line: Follow the small brine tube from the brine tank to the Clearwater control valve venturi. Make sure it is not kinked or blocked. Disconnect and flush with warm water if needed.
  • Clear the code: Restore power and initiate a manual regeneration. Observe the brine draw stage; the brine level should drop several inches. If it does, E02 should clear automatically.

If brine is still not drawn, the venturi assembly or injector in the Clearwater control valve may need replacement.
