Possible Causes

Stuck Clearwater brine safety float, Cracked or leaking brine valve seat, Control valve not closing refill port, Misprogrammed refill time or rate

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit. Do not allow brine to overflow onto flooring; use a wet/dry vacuum if needed. Wear gloves and eye protection.

  • Shut off water: Close the inlet valve to stop further filling.
  • Check safety float: Remove the brine well cover and lift the Clearwater safety float assembly. Ensure it moves freely and that the float rod is not jammed with salt. Clean with warm water and reassemble.
  • Inspect brine valve: At the base of the float assembly, inspect the brine valve seat and O-rings for cracks or debris preventing full closure. Replace worn parts.
  • Verify programming: In the installer menu, confirm the brine refill time and refill flow rate match Clearwater specifications for your tank size. Reduce if set too high.
  • Drain excess brine: Manually bail or vacuum excess water until level is just above the air check at the bottom of the brine well.

Restore water and power, then run a test regeneration. If the tank still overfills, the Clearwater control valve body may be leaking internally and should be replaced.
